It’s Like Pulling Teeth.

I just read an online article regarding the shortage of dentists in England. Apparently people are so desperate to receive dental care they’ve resorted to pulling their own teeth and using Superglue to glue crowns back on. First off, how the heck do you pull your own teeth? What kind of tool would you use, an ordinary pliers? The one and only time I had a tooth extraction the dentist had to pull so hard to get the darn tooth out I thought he was going to pull part of my jaw along with it. Seems to me that pulling your own teeth can be pretty risky. What if the tooth cracks and you only pull the tooth out partially? Then you’re stuck with a piece of broken tooth in your gum. Now that’s gotta be painful! And not to mention performing an extraction without novacaine. My dentist had to give me several shots before I was numb enough not to feel the procedure.

The use of Superglue has got to be pretty risky as well. I know Superglue isn’t nearly as strong as it was when it first came out on the market, but it must be strong. Afterall, they do call it Superglue. Suppose you glue your lips together? Or glue your finger to your gum? And it’s quite possible it’s toxic. I wouldn’t want a toxic substance in my mouth. You’ll end up with a problem alot worse than a toothache. But, I suppose if you glue yourself together you could then go to a doctor for medical care. Hopefully there’s no shortage of MD’s in England or you’d really be in trouble. It goes to show you what some people are willing to do when in pain and the health care system is lacking in professionals.
